It seems you can never talk to a homophobic person without them bringing up religion as justification for their dislike of gay people. But if you remove the religion, and even go so far as to be an atheist will someone still have justification for disliking members of the LGBT community simply because of their sexual orientation?
Im sure there are homophobic atheists. There must be. Though I honestly do not know any (or they have not made me aware of this flaw in their character. Which makes me wonder if you are an atheist and you have no religious objection then do you have a rational reason for your dislike.
I would really love to understand it. I dislike any statement that assumes atheists are better people than believers as that is a broad and inflamatory assumption to make. But in this case it would seem that religion is the heart of so much hate that atheists are likely to come out on top. But maybe i’m wrong.
